Badminton Association Of Andaman and Nicobar Island

Badminton Association of A&N Islands (BAANI) was formed in the year 2015 as a small group of badminton enthusiasts when the game was not so popular in the islands yet having its presence felt at the national level. The objective of forming the group was to popularize the game of badminton in the islands through the young kids to aim at a professional path while encouraging the adult to take it up as a better way of keeping physically fit.

BAANI was registered as an association under the Societies Registration Act in the year 2017 with registration no.1595 The activities of BAANI kicked off with signing an MoU with the Port Blair Municipal Council which extended its Badminton Court at Dairy Farm to be operated and maintained at a no profit no loss basis in the interest of the local youth and villagers. The premises became the academy for BAANI to coach hundreds of children since then. A large number of children after having taken coaching from there made up to the state and national levels at various competitions.

BAANI, after having created a base of more than 50 good badminton players went further ahead to provide opportunities to the players for competitive mindset by introducing Andaman Badminton Premier League (ABPL) from the year 2022. A large number of players participate in the competition through a system of auction of players to owners, local entrepreneurs. The adrenaline level of the participants remains high throughout the competition. The badminton players of the islands look forward to this mega event every year.
